Characteristics of Department of Biological Production Studies
Science of food and food safety in the 21st century
Modern agriculture faces a variety of issues, from global to local, that must be resolved, including the decline in food and agricultural production due to global warming, food crises due to the world's growing population, the burden of modern agriculture on the environment, and a decline in Japan's food self-sufficiency rate. In Department of Biological Production, students can learn practically and widely about how to elucidate and utilize the diverse functions of living organisms using cutting-edge technology from the genetic to ecosystem levels, and about the entire process from agricultural production to consumption in various production sites. Through these education and research, students will acquire knowledge of cutting-edge science and technology related to biological production by the time of graduation. We aim to train talented people who can utilize this knowledge for the sustainable development of agriculture both domestically and internationally, the distribution, processing, and consumption of agricultural products, and the active development and utilization of useful functions of living organisms.
Educational goals
Department of Biological Production to develop broad-minded individuals who have a deep and broad understanding of agriculture in Japan and around the world, as well as advanced specialized knowledge related to agriculture, and who have excellent basic and applied skills in the fields of production technology and the environment, plant production, animal production, and agricultural management and economics.
